Bracketville (Kinney County) — Kinney County Commissioners Court have approved a development plan for a community park and authorized staff to submit grant applications to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for the funding.

Discussions about major improvements to the county park have been ongoing for a few years. It would be located on county land generally bounded by East Henderson Street to the north, West 3rd Street to the west, Spring Street to the south and South Grover Street to the east.

A resolution approved on Aug. 23 states that Commissioners Court adopted the development plan for Kinney County Community Park that was presented by Coluzeus Multi-Art and Creative Design LLC, a local design firm.

It further stipulates that the county will seek funding for the implementation of development phases. Amenities and elements of the park are specified to include baseball parks, a splash pad, a multi-purpose amphitheater, playground area and parking, a pavilion, landscaping, lighting, a walking track, soccer field, pond and picnic area.

The county recreational facilities as they exist on the grounds today are limited to a swimming pool and a subpar baseball field.

Two Parks & Wildlife project grant applications were approved. The first application for $150,000 refers to a “small community recreation.” Brochure material on this amenity described a variety of splash pad systems, each priced differently. The splash pads reviewed are Aquatrix by Landscape Structures Inc. of Delano, Minnesota. They use HydroLogix technology, a system that powers the pads without electricity.

The second grant application of $750,000 referred to the baseball fields and a concession stand building that would include restrooms and storage. Schematics for the concession/restroom building were produced by Easi-Set Worldwide Inc . of Midland, Virginia, a manufacturer of precast concrete buildings. The schematic described is for a one-story building of 30 feet by 24 feet (720 SF) and a height of 9 feet.

The Coluzeus concept was submitted in February 2020. The concept goes beyond what Commissioners Court listed as the essential features. The Coluzeus plans also include a jungle theme mini-water park beside the existing pool, outdoor volleyball and basketball courts, and a skateboarding and skating rink area.
