Toro (Zamora)/Palencia, June 11 (EFE).- The workers of the Siro plants in Spain, in Toro (Zamora) and Venta de Baños (Palencia), have ratified with a very large majority the preliminary agreement reached between the committees company, the business management and the new investor, which will alleviate the economic situation of the biscuit company and save its 1,700 jobs. The company committees have given their majority support to the viability plan of the company that establishes social peace for the next four years in the assemblies held in Toro and Venta de Baños, which were attended by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism , Reyes Maroto, as promoter of the agreement between the parties. In Toro, 92% of the workers have said yes to the viability plan, while in one of the Venta de Baños plants (Palencia) it has obtained the support of 85% of the workforce and in the other almost 98%. .The latter was the factory that has been saved from imminent closure thanks to the pre-agreement reached early this Friday. For their part, the workers at the Aguilar de Campo factory in Palencia did not have to vote, as they already supported a previous plan that was less favorable for the workforce. The broad support comes after the Toro and Venta de Baños staffs rejected a previous viability plan at the beginning of the month and, as a result, the company announced that it was paralyzing production and would not be able to pay the May payroll, by not guaranteeing the conditions for the entry of a new investment group that would inject liquidity into the company.Reyes Maroto, who has led the negotiations held since February to design a future plan that prevents the closure of the four biscuit factories in Spain, has also reported on the delicate situation of Siro at the assemblies.Maroto has put the workers in the dilemma of "talking about the future or closing", and has assured that if it is not for the plan designed with the arrival of the new investor, the company will go bankrupt on June 19, after Siro lost 47 million euros last year. For this reason, the biscuit company needs "in the short term to enable 130 million euros", of which 80 will be to pay suppliers and 50 million for treasury and payroll. To do this, the ministry has mediated between the banking pool of creditors so that they assume part of the losses based on their exposure to the company and has sought an external investor who has contributed one hundred million euros. In addition, the initial viability plan, which the workers did not accept, was improved last Friday morning in a negotiation at the ministry and in the last few hours has included new improvements for the workforce. The minister explained that, among these better conditions, the recovery of purchasing power by 8% is included after the four years of salary containment established by the viability plan and better conditions in incentivized dismissals, which can come in especially handy for employees who have been with the company for almost forty years and can thus have "a dignified departure".In the case of one of the two Venta de Baños plants, which was initially planned to close, "two years have been gained" in which it will remain open so that from then on, or else it will continue because "things are going well " or a new investor is found to keep it running.Maroto has highlighted the importance of the reindustrialization of the rural environment, by locating the four Siro plants in rural areas of Palencia and Zamora.Amongst the workers, most of them thought that the solution offered to them was the least bad in the face of the threat of closure and non-payment of payroll, for which they expressed their relief at the final result of the negotiations and the vote.José Luis de Castro, who has been at the Toro factory for thirteen years, where his wife is also employed, has influenced this idea, and who has explained to Efe that he has voted in favor of the viability plan because it was "less leonine" than the previous proposal and also a point has been reached where it was "either this or the company goes to shit", he declared. The Federation of Industry of the UGT union has celebrated the result of the votes of the workers who have ratified the competitiveness plan of Siro and that allows the viability of the factories and the maintenance of employment, "ensuring an economic future and fixing the population" in the municipalities where the biscuit company is based and in Castilla y León.Sanfermin tourism recovers with high prices and a change in profileThe €10
